AED Wall Cabinet Buying Guide for Singapore Buildings
Most AED budgets stall on the defibrillator. The cabinet is the part that decides whether anyone can find and open the device when someone collapses.
A clinical AED in a locked cupboard, a cardboard box on a shelf, or a cabinet sized for a different model is not a public-access install. It is storage.
This guide is for MCSTs, managing agents, facility managers, and workplace safety leads choosing a wall cabinet in Singapore. It covers alarmed versus basic cabinets, indoor versus outdoor units, sizing, mounting, and when a marketplace cabinet is enough versus when you should buy through a local AED supplier. It does not replace manufacturer mounting instructions or any fire-safety, accessibility, or insurer requirements that apply to your premises.
What an AED cabinet is for
The cabinet has three jobs:
- Make the AED visible so a stranger can spot it without asking.
- Protect the device from dust, casual handling, and weather where relevant.
- Keep access fast so a runner can open the door and leave with the unit in seconds.

Decide alarmed vs basic before you open a product page
Theft and vandalism fear push many councils toward locks. Locks usually lose more time than they save.
Basic snap-lock or magnetic cabinets suit staffed lobbies, reception approaches, and offices where people walk past often and casual removal is unlikely. They are cheaper, quieter, and simpler to mount.
Alarmed cabinets suit condo lift lobbies, gyms, schools, and other shared spaces where you want an unlocked door plus a loud deterrent if someone opens it without cause. The alarm is the compromise: public access without a key hunt.
Avoid key-locked cabinets with no keyholder standing next to them. An AED that needs a duty officer who is on patrol is not ready.
Practical rule for Singapore residential MCSTs:
- Lift lobby or guardhouse approach with 24-hour foot traffic: prefer alarmed, unlocked.
- Staffed office reception with controlled after-hours access: a basic cabinet is often enough.
- Outdoor or semi-outdoor walkway: look for weather-rated and alarmed options, and verify IP rating and local warranty before you order.
Indoor cabinets vs outdoor cabinets
Most Singapore condo and office installs are indoor. A painted steel indoor cabinet with a clear window is the default.
Outdoor or semi-outdoor sites (sheltered void decks, open walkways, pool decks without air-conditioning) need a cabinet rated for humidity, rain splash, and heat. Marketplace indoor cabinets are not automatically outdoor-safe. If the listing does not state outdoor use, treat it as indoor only.
Also check:
- Whether the door clear window will fog or yellow in tropical sun
- Whether the alarm battery is separate from the AED battery
- Whether mounting hardware suits concrete or hollow block walls common in local estates
Size the cabinet to the AED you already chose
Buy the defibrillator decision first, or at least shortlist the model. Cabinets are sold as "universal," but universal means "fits many brands," not "fits every bag and every accessory pouch."
Before you order a cabinet, measure or ask the supplier for:
- AED height, width, and depth in its carry case if you store it cased
- Extra room for spare pads, scissors, razor, gloves, and a CPR face shield
- Whether the door opens fully against a nearby wall, fire hose reel, or directory board
If you buy the cabinet first and the device later, you risk a second purchase. Local AED packages often include a matched cabinet for that reason. Marketplace cabinets remain useful when you already own a device, are replacing a damaged enclosure, or need a spare for a second floor.
What Singapore installs usually cost

- Stainless or alarmed enclosures: often S$550 to S$950 when bought with a clinical package

The cheaper marketplace unit can be the right buy for a straightforward indoor lobby if dimensions fit and you accept that support, warranty claims, and outdoor ratings may be thinner than a distributor package.
The clinical AED itself still belongs with an authorised Singapore supplier for warranty, pads, training options, and post-event support. Marketplace listings that look like full defibrillators are a poor substitute for that channel.

Choose marketplace when the enclosure is the missing piece and you can verify fit. Choose a supplier package when you are buying the whole programme: device, cabinet, signage, training, and maintenance support.

Print this for the AGM or purchase request:
- Confirmed AED model (or shortlist) and measured dimensions
- Indoor vs outdoor requirement written down
- Alarmed vs basic decided from the access model (no orphan keys)
- Clear window and high-visibility colour preferred over a plain cupboard look

After the cabinet arrives
Mounting is not the finish line.
- Open the door and remove the AED one-handed while standing in a normal stance. If it feels awkward, remount lower or clear the swing path.
- Add AED symbol signs at the cabinet and at corridor decision points.
- Log the install date, location landmark, and alarm test if fitted.
- Brief security and concierge with a one-line landmark ("Level 1 lift lobby, opposite the letterboxes").
- Put the cabinet on the same inspection list as pads and batteries.
A new cabinet with faded signs, a blocked approach, or an expired status light is still a failed install. Keep the programme boring and current.

Do I need an alarmed AED cabinet for a condo?
Often yes for unstaffed or lightly staffed lift lobbies. An alarmed unlocked cabinet protects against casual removal without forcing a key search during a cardiac arrest. Staffed reception areas can use a basic cabinet if access stays reliable after hours.
Can I buy an AED cabinet on Amazon.sg?
Yes for many indoor universal cabinets, if you verify dimensions against your AED and accept marketplace warranty terms. Buy the clinical defibrillator through an authorised Singapore supplier.
Should the AED cabinet be locked?
Prefer unlocked access. If theft is a concern, use an alarm rather than a padlock or a key held off-site. A locked public-access AED that delays retrieval fails its job.
What size AED cabinet do I need?
